Spine Poetry
Today Room 8 had an adventure at the library with Heather creating poetry with the titles of books. This poetry is called Spine Poetry. We searched the shelves for interesting titles and sorted them into piles tied with a rubber band. Here are some. Can you tell what the poem says?

Super Scientists- Who Dunnit?
Last Thursday we were all forensic detectives looking for clues to solve the mystery of the stolen laptop.
Students examined found fibers, fingerprints and a bag of white powder. We did solve the mystery by examining all the evidence.

Super Fizzy Acids
If a liquid is mixed with baking soda and it fizzes a lot, it is an acid. If a liquid is mixed with baking soda and does not fizz at all it is not an acid.
Look what happened.
All of the tested liquids
Lemon juice
Red fizzy
water
Which ones are acids?

Sweet and Sour
We were lucky to have a turn with the science box last week. First we added vinegar (acid) to baking soda (a base) and then we tested it. There was lots of talking and observation of what was happening.Everyone worked well together.
Then students mixed some of the chemicals in little bags. What did we make? Sherbet. And better yet everyone got a lollipop to dip in.
What did we learn?

What did we learn?
- measure your chemicals carefully
- don't taste unless you know what it is
- the bubbles were actually carbon dioxide being released
- And science is fun!

Plant Heads
Last week we planted our bottles with seed raising mix and parsley, cress or wheat. The parsley heads will be the slowest of all to germinate and grow. Look at them now! They look so funny with their spiky hair. They are keeping us very entertained as the hair grows so fast and they change so quickly.
Stitching Tukutuku Panels
We have loved stitching our tukutuku panels in red, white and black wool. They look fantastic! Some students have finished 2 and then started designing and stitching their own.

Football in Schools
We had our last 2 sessions of football in the last week of term. It was very wet getting there but it was worth it. Everyone thinks their skills have improved over the weeks and it was fun with everyone giving it a real go.
