Researching our Questions.

It's the last week of our term and now we are researching our own questions about Ancient Greece. Forming an interesting  open question is not as easy as you would think. It is a skill we need to develop and practice.
Working with a partner Room 8 students are giving it a real go!

First they looked for information, read it and made notes of important ideas. Finally they summarised the ideas in their own words and added little illustrations with labels.

Choose your own Homework

We had our first homework  sharing today.

Bennett and Tom worked together and surprised us with their amazing bug made from a petrol tank and bits and pieces . Can you spot the hair dryer bit? Firstly they shared their design process and the pointed out all the features of their bug.

Luca shared some delicious chocolate cupcakes with us . They were yummy ! He made enough for the whole class to share at lunch.

Room 8's Play Reading

As a follow on to reader's theatre, we have started play readings and performing them to the class with simple props. Everyone is enjoying being different characters and working with different people from the class. Changing your voice to suit your character is fun.

The BP Challenge

Last Thursday Bennett and Fergus went off to Hutt Intermediate to perform in the BP challenge that they had trained for with Mrs Ryan  and Mr McMillan. The team did not win the bird feeder challenge but they won the unknown challenge which involved making a stretcher strong enough to hold 2kg of flour. The prizes were a calculator,  coloured pencils, a sharpener and certificates.

The team think it is a good thing to have a try at. It's fun and you get to work with other people and their ideas.

What do we Think we Know about Ancient Greece?

Last week we put our ideas about lots of topics about Ancient Greece on sticky notes and put them into categories. Groups then looked at all the ideas and summarised what people had said and then they added 2 questions they had about the topic. The hard part was working as a group to see if they could find out the answer to one of the questions.

Summarising is hard as you need to put all the ideas together and think  about what the ideas mean and put the main ideas into a sentence.
